\\THE FLYDAY MUSIC FESTIVAL STORY
Back in 1981 in the college town of Geneseo, NY, an alternative co-ed frat-ority AXP (later RXE) held an annual one-day outdoor party in the Spring called Fly Day. This tradition continued for 28 years until the event folded under pressure from the community and college. In the late 90's, the band Schleigho started a music festival in Erik Krasno's backyard and then moved to the Wendell State Forest called The Ho-Down. Some of the best bands of the late 90's scene (Lettuce, Soulive, Derek Trucks Band, The Slip, Lake Trout, Moon Boot Lover, Yolk, Jazz Mandolin Project, Conehead Buddha and more) would come together with Schleigho to celebrate music, friends, and life.
In 2017 a member of Schleigho who went to Geneseo and was a member of RXE, was living in the Catskills. He asked his friends the Handel family who own the Blackthorne Resort if he could use the big outdoor stage to pull Schleigho back together after a long hiatus to play 2 nights along with a few other bands for The Flyday Ho-Down. The event's intent was an RXE reunion of sorts in the Fly Day tradition, and a chance for Schleigho to play again for their friends, families and fans.
The event was a success and so much fun, a partnership was formed and Flyday Music Festival came to life.
Flyday Music Festival is a non-corporate, intimate festival put on by 2 musicians who love great music. The quality of the music and the coming together of friends and the ever-growing Flyday Family is the main focus of Flyday today.
The music you will hear is original and bad-ass bands of mostly funk, fusion, experimental and progressive rock, as well as some americana, reggae/dub, and jam. We hope you join the Flyday Family if you're not with us already!!
We have rescheduled the festival to October 1-3 due to the pandemic. We are capping ticket sales at 200 for now but may release more tickets depending on how NYSDOH regulations develop. We anticipate selling out quickly and no tickets available at the door so don't delay. The credit card info you give the ticket sales service will hold your ticket and secure your admission to the festival. Your card will not be charged until we are 100% sure we are able to move forward with putting on Flyday safely and in accordance with NYSDOH Covid-19 regulations. If we are forced to cancel, you card will not be charged.
If you bought a ticket for 2020 it will be honored for the new dates. If you booked a room you will be contacted by Blackthorne to arrange switching your room to the new dates. If we are forced to cancel the new October dates, your room deposit will be honored at Flyday Music Festival 2022. So far the lineup is the same but there may be some changes due to conflicts in rescheduling a festival, which is a big deal. Thank you for understanding!!!
\\WHAT SAFETY & HEALTH MEASURES ARE BEING TAKEN?
All CDC and New York State guidelines are being followed. Stay tuned for updates. Anticipate some masking, physical distancing, hand sanitizing, health screening, as per NYS DOH and CDC guidelines and laws. Covid testing and/or proof of vaccine is unlikely but we can't guarantee we won't be required to do so.
\\CAN I BUY TICKETS AT THE SHOW?
Maybe, but we can't guarantee they will be available. Tickets are still available in advance. Buy them HERE.
We can only sell 200 tickets at this time due to NYS Covid gathering restrictions. Don't wait! Your credit card info will reserve your ticket and admission to the festival but will not be charged until we are 100% positive we will not have to cancel due to Covid. Tickets will be transferrable as well.
\\DO I HAVE TO WEAR A MASK AND STAY IN A SPOT?
By October 1, things will probably be different so stay tuned for health and safety updates as determined by NYS DOH and the CDC. Masks may be required for un-vaccinated fans and staff inside the venue area. You must utilize a mask upon arrival in order to safely communicate with ticketing and parking attendants. Again, we will be following current NYS DOH and CDC guidelines for health and safety. Hopefully with full vaccine availability, herd immunity and continued decreasing Covid numbers, our limited attendance and ample space, a large viewing area in front of the stage will allow you to move freely and have adequate physical distancing form your fellow attendees.
\\WHAT ARE THE COVID RESTRICTIONS?
We will be updating our testing/vaccine/mask/covid policy in adherence to the NYS laws and guidelines which are constantly changing. As we get closer to the event, look for updates. Your safety and health is our top priority.
\\CAN I BRING IN MY OWN FOOD AND BEVERAGE?
YES, you are welcome to bring your own food and beverages for your campsite or room. Cooking on camping stoves at your site is OK but no open campfires unless your site has a fire pit. Alcohol is ok at your campsite or room, but you can't bring them into the venue area. There is a full bar as well as fresh, local microbrew on tap from Back Barn Brewing Co by the stage. Please drink responsibly and assign a designated driver. Underage alcohol consumption will not be tolerated.
\\GENERAL ADMISSION GETS ME WHERE?
General admission (All ages) tickets grant access to the enclosed outdoor venue area as well as access to the whole Blackthorne Resort. Anybody can visit Blackthorne, but you will not be able to see any of the bands without a ticket. Accommodations are optional, varied and not included in General Admission Tickets. See the STAY page on this website or CAMPING/ROOMS below. Options are good right? We think so.
